     It's too bad that I have learned
    Many things the hard way
    I need to watch what I do
    But mostly what I say

    I have said a lot of things
    That made you feel upset
    Words I wish I could take back
    Words I wish you'd forget

    What I said offended you
    I should have used some tact
    Kindness and compassion are
    What I severely lacked

    When I tried to correct you
    I went a bit too far
    Never did I realize
    How powerful words are

    What you say can say a lot
    About what's on your mind
    I never intended to
    Be callous or unkind

    Words can build or can destroy
    The strong as well as weak
    Words can bless or they can curse
    So think before you speak
