Higher
What if everything we triedJust wasn't good enough?
Would we make excuses and
Give up when things seem tough?
What would this nation be like
If our efforts were poor?
These and other questions are
Not the kind I'd ignore
Tell me, what are we to do?
What would be their retort
If we said it's not our fault
Because we came up short?
No responsibility
Would be taken, you see?
How could you ever respect
A man as low as me?
Keep your expectations low
That's what I would proclaim
They won't be disappointed
If our efforts are lame
Keep lowering your standards
Just how low can you go?
If there were no incentives
There'd be no room to grow
I believe it's overdue
For us to raise the bar
I attest, let's do our best
To not stay where we are
Our nation was founded on
Hard work and sacrifice
We did not win one world war
We really did it twice!
We need to be a nation
That all can admire
Our pursuit of happiness
Can raise the bar higher
Please expect far greater things
In all that you aspire
Soon you'll see, there's victory
Whenever you aim higher
