The Maximum
If you do the minimumOf all that is required
You'll succumb to laziness
And you'll always feel tired
Some people are happy with
Cutting corners each day
They want to stay average
In every single way
They have lacked the passion to
Set the bar much higher
They are tepid and lukewarm
And have no spark or fire
They have been mediocre
Just barely getting by
Don't expect too much from them
They'll never aim too high
They will choose monotony
Over what's bold or new
Reluctant to take chances
In most of what they do
For me, it is not enough
To simply pass each test
I'd resort to overkill
Extra credit is best
Like a student who wants A's
And hates to receive C's
I will be above average
Even better than B's
Like a poetry student
Who has a lofty goal
My standards are higher now
And better as a whole
I am better as a whole
Because I've reached a peak
Yet I will not boast or brag
I'll stay humble and meek
If you do the maximum
More than most do expect
The quality of your life
Will be close to perfect
