     I think your boyfriend's really cool
    He seems to treat you right
    I really want what's best for you
    I've never seen you fight

    But if there comes any time
    That things just turn out wrong
    And he's not the man for you
    Then we could get along

    I am your backup boyfriend
    I've loved you from afar
    I hope he gives you respect
    And sees how good you are

    Maybe you'll get in a fight
    And it's too late to make up
    Then I can be your boyfriend
    In case you ever break up

    I'll be your backup boyfriend
    I'm waiting here in case
    If you ever call it off
    Then I can take his place
