Resolutions
On this last day of the yearThere's something I should do
New year's resolutions are
Promised to become true
Promises I'd like to keep
And want to guarantee
Bad habits I need to break
Become reality
The reality is this
Vows are hard to follow
You don't want your words to seem
So empty and hollow
I resolve to do my best
To let my "yes" mean "yes"
And my "no" to stay a "no"
No one would have to guess
I'll be a man of my word
A trusted friend indeed
A man of integrity
And fit to take the lead
I'll be more responsible
That is a noble goal
I will have the will power
To act in self-control
Yes, I want to lose more weight
And yes, I'll exercise
Yes, I need to eat less food
Because it hits my thighs
Starting January first
I will be good all year
No more smoking, alcohol
Not even one last beer
Can I keep my promises?
It's too early to say
Yet I'd likely break each one
Before it's even May
