A Higher Power
I want to be very richI'll win the lottery
Or will my dream be shattered
Like brittle pottery?
Pottery can be of clay
But I did break the mold
When all that seemed of value
Was cash, silver, and gold
Put your love in riches and
All you accumulate?
In the end, they're not a friend
I don't exaggerate
An addiction to gambling
How could I let this be?
Pretty soon, this big buffoon
Went on a spending spree
Money can't buy happiness
You've heard some people say
Money doesn't grow on trees
You've heard of that cliche
I ignored the warning signs
And spent all that I had
When the greedy turn needy
It's pathetic and sad
There's a higher power that
Is not a thing of fiction
Alone I was powerless
To conquer my addiction
With the proper therapy
And lots of self-control
I'll never gamble again
That is a noble goal
Without a higher power
I don't know what to do
I am awed that It is God
He will help me get through
