    The One

     I was burned, so I have learned
    Never to love once more
    A mistake made my heart break
    Then I evened the score

    What is left after all this
    Are two broken hearts, see?
    I regret what has been done
    But it's better for me

    Now she's with another man
    I don't know what to say
    I guess I should wish her well
    The one who got away

    I thought that she was the one
    Who'd be there all my life
    Together forever as
    A husband and a wife

    Am I meant to be alone?
    What is around the curve
    Of the path that I've chosen?
    Is this what I deserve?

    Will I learn to love again?
    I don't know what's in store
    Somewhere out there is the one
    Someone I could adore

    Now I know to take things slow
    I'll find a loyal mate
    She will be the one for me
    And she'll be worth the wait

    All people come in and out of our lives for a reason. We may not always be able to see it. My heart is with you and hopes for healing and recognition next time that you might not want to go that far yet. Still, a wonderful love poem, with excellent rhythm, and rhyme and a message that is timeless. Well done, and write on....
