    Win Or Lose

     I used to have a hunger
    For glory and for fame
    But there was no happiness
    In just playing the game

    I used to be determined
    To win at any cost
    And would base my value on
    Whether I won or lost

    I was afraid of losing
    No matter what the sport
    In my quest to be the best
    I'd always come up short

    It is hard to please the crowd
    The pressure was extreme
    If labeled a failure it
    Could hurt my self-esteem

    I had to change my outlook
    How I defined success
    If there is no joy in life
    What good is all this stress?

    I'll be happy, win or lose
    Victory or defeat
    Either way will be okay
    It's just fun to compete

    Win or lose, I'll be content
    And put my stress to rest
    Gratified and satisfied
    To know I did my best
