     I am a number
    Another statistic
    Nine digits of data
    Can't be optimistic

    We all have a number
    Without it, we're poor
    Social security
    What is it for?

    You can't earn a paycheck
    How will you get paid?
    You need this number
    For government aid

    You must pay your taxes
    Keep giving them more
    And hope that you live
    To at least sixty-four

    Once you retire
    Will you get your share?
    When I retire
    I hope it's still there
