    Deception

     I am not in love with you
    Believe me, I have tried
    I didn't want to hurt you
    So I purposely lied

    I love you, but not the way
    That you'd want it, you see
    I should have told you sooner
    That we're not meant to be

    Meant to be husband and wife
    I guess I led you on
    I kept up this deception
    Which soon became a con

    Playing games with someone's heart
    Is a mean thing to do
    And the worst part of all this
    Is that I betrayed you

    So before I leave for good
    There's something you should know
    That I want what's best for you
    So I'm letting you go

    Spread your wings and fly away
    And free yourself from me
    You deserve a better man
    Who has integrity

    I'm no good, what more to say?
    I'm rotten to the core
    Can a person just like me
    Go on and sin no more?

    I won't blame you if you don't 
    Forgive this lonely guy
    I kept up this deception
    And lived a great big lie

    In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
