Treading
Praise from strangers
animosity from family
indifference from friends
here is where the story ends
Looking out that window
can't blame strange behavior
on another full moon
Winter arriving too soon
Who honestly cares
whatever they think?
treading the same wave length
this life tarnished and rank
Woke up today
strangely optimistic for a moment
then a disgruntled sibling
will only pound the hurt home
Acknowledging birthdays
while the recipients wish to fade away
leaving unanswered messages
on some voice forwarding machine
Now there is knocking on the ceiling
raining blame to these ears
but guilty thoughts will never stick
when the sender is so full of it
Counting the days
when this influence is no more
until some future crisis
has them kicking down the doors
Sadly another refrain
of this bottled up pain
outside a solitary train
derailed by pranksters again
The sirens screaming
flashing crimson beams
reflecting off overturned cars
a deadened world forever dreaming
