Put These Words to Rest
Put these words to rest
this loyalty doesn't need another test
don't need to be first, or the best
I am myself
Tongues flapping
conversations hellbent on entrapping
sidestepping all this fretting
closing these eyes
and completely forgetting
Trapped inside a stormy sea
riding out these waves of irrationality
too self absorbed to ask for help
don't view this body as some whelp
Not looking for financial assistance
someday the bills will all be paid
somehow all the relationships that were waylaid
need to return to grayish dust
and be forgotten in some shallow grave
Put this troubled mind at ease
but no one can truly comfort
For beneath the warmth of human kindness
is the worst kind of coldness
the iciness of an empty heart
that can never finish anything
when nothing will honestly start
Closing these eyes
shutting out the memorized lines
the arms that reach
the mouths that preach
curled up in a ball on this couch
wondering why everything turns south
Just for once
if any given opportunity would arise
I'd grasp it with both hands
look it right into the eyes
but the hands are broken
the eyes reflecting subtle lies
like a cheap drugstore mirror
destined to break
as it collides with the floor
shattered to the core
