The Edge of Nowhere
Heres to another happy weekend
in the most dysfunctional house
on these surburban streets
keeping up appearances,
while inside, such seething freaks
waiting for another raincoat brigade
to wash it all away
running amuck
like packs of rabid dogs
converging on the food court
at the local mall
looking so hard,
if one catches a reflection
off polished steel
trying to keep it real,
but failing miserably
kissing cash registers
channeling plastic credit
cash or debit
rolling easily off the tongue
what about this human condition?
overflowing garbage cans
recycled, refrigerated air
pumping lungs and stylish thugs
beating hearts, breaking bones
discarded by the back stairs
heading to the fringe
the edge of nowhere
taking all this in,
losing ourselves
