The Look of Irony
It's funny how they stay away
yet always rely on the ones
whom they utterly despise
see the look of complete irony
in these ocean blue eyes
An entire world is stifled
lost at the top of the stairs
living a lifetime of lies
convinced that nobody actually cares
(well we don't)
How do you perceive yourself?
successful with some monetary wealth
too much gourmet
now dealing with failing health
cardboard people can still cut
Now what?
What is it going to take
before you realize what was lost
foundations crumble and break
all that grandeur is now dust
Memories will fracture and fade
old photographs lighten with age
newspaper stacks turning yellow
coffee ring stains on a dog eared page
Some maudlin melody
playing over and over
like a demented carousal ride
belonging to a past
that a future can only despise
Nothing practical
feigning another ruse
why doesn't someone just light a fuse
and blow it all away?
