Midnight People
Midnight people
pencil thin to the bone
exit the shower
dress in trashy clothes
and exclusive colognes
Maybe a light meal
brushing those teeth so white
calling a yellow cab
to enter the night life
Is it Friday night?
Does it even really matter?
Listening for the patter
of congregating chatter
Through the blackened doors
thick with smoke
lined with velvet ropes
air conditioned atmosphere
Disconnection fills the air
Midnight people
feeling slightly artistic
maybe even fatalistic
certainly not realistic
comments so caustic
with words so frosted
Maybe hell has frozen over
bitching about nothing in particular
tripping over the vernacular
Hoping to appear spectacular
only to stumble and falter
Is this creative or ill-fated?
Foreign substances coursing through
miles of capillaries and veins
Life becomes surreal and strange
talking about feelings and pain
how beautiful life
becomes complicated and strained
Only to head home
before the virgin rays
of a brand new day
grow some balls and burn away
