It Pains Me
It pains me
to be treated like an enemy
when I'm the same person
as I was before
when I walked through that door
You are the one
who lives to despise
manipulated by someone
who follows a code of lies,
or are you just along for the ride?
What do you envision
when you look upon me?
coming to a decision
about the way the world ought to be,
but unfortunately isn't
Now it's a cold shoulder
a relationship suddenly over
making this man feel a little older
always jumping the gun,
while hurting someone
The images these words invoke
the hatred one longs to stoke
fingers wrapped around a throat
but sadly he just turns away,
because he wasn't brought up that way
Angry exchanges stinging like a hard slap
always feeling a knife straight in this back
turning around to the sound
of such a bitter laugh,
but we all tread our own path
Since when did she become so passive?
encompassing double standards so massive?
There is no safe passage
down a one way street
with a pack of ingrates at your feet
Never to understand
how one can be so misled
from empty words so obviously penned
a lifelong relationship destroyed in the end
all in the name of, 'lets pretend'
