In January
Thank you for not understanding
for never trying to fathom
these peculiarities
that make up
this very foundation
Always crumbling away
bit by bit
by sarcastic wit
from pretentious twits
Found a picture of you
from a year ago
in January,
still these tears
erupt in a moment,
washing away
bittersweet memories
Putting on this brave face
just to step outside
each and every day
can't explain
how this heart
quietly shines
through the endless trite,
that threatens to drag
into a claustrophobic night
Punctuated by head lights
always driving further away,
somehow the moments
never quite seem to matter
