Syactic Nerve Blues
Pain is incredible,
how one little, buried nerve
can release enough sensory overload,
to physically blind me,
into seeing white light
Last night, I could stand on my own two feet
this morning had to learn to crawl
on my hands and knees
roll out of bed,
the floor is a thousand miles away
Religiously slathering
non greasy, pain relieving gel
all over my backside
as if it is the miracle cure
The scent only reminds me
of jars of dirty turpentine,
without the light headed effects
that linger forever
heavy in the air
She sees me in the kitchen,
complains my greeting is negative
well it is hard to keep a cheery face
when your body feels on fire
and the extra strength Tylenol
you swallowed with water
are just as useless as a Pez dispenser
Give me a break
I never wanted any of this
try and treat this temple right,
but it has other ideas
getting older,
is no place for sissies
