A Kindred Spirit
Ninety minutes in Hell
18 spoken word poems taped for posterity in 1966
recorded where Bukowski's ragged emotions dwelled
drinking beers, while puffing Salem cigarettes
Listening to this tape made before I was born
background noises slithered, while the recording hissed
this man not quite broken, but rather worn
imagining him seething , his honesty pointedly pissed
To the wanton women he kissed
his emotional state disheveled
never to back down from some slap on the wrist
the poetic playing field he leveled
He was burning brightly before my time
quite possibly a kindred spirit of some kind
