    A Future At Stake

    Starting to think
    the only person who ever cared
    is dead and gone
    now a lifetime filled
    with such unwarranted dread
    everything has gone wrong
    empty dreams reside in this head
    don't want to belong
    in a world where love
    is resurrected in a song
    butchered by Muzak
    that can only rile,
    never reveal
    background noise
    can never raise a smile
    Here he is
    contemplating another year
    scarred by personal demons
    facing down his fears
    posted a picture
    a naked soul
    now interested parties
    want to consume him whole
    This is not the majority way
    refused to be cemented
    by self defeating clay
    delete that vision
    just take it away
    these moralistic views
    are realistic values
    judgment calls
    that shouldn't be here at all
    want to make his own mistakes
    to fall completely down
    experience all the heart break
    that tells him he's alive
    living on the brink
    of a future at stake
    with anticipated breath
