She Used To
She used to talk
until she turned away
settled down
with the wrong sort
who in return
snarls bitter retorts
What about love?
convinced this is it
sadly mistaken
just plain faking
Watching the cracks
in the smudged plaster
widening in silent laughter
foundations crumble
accusations never mend
feeling too much
as a heaviness descends
Now he's wearing a crucifix
on a silver tarnished chain
barely sleeping at night
as another day begins
purposely isolated
as if that will punish him more
never really knowing
what the future might hold in store
hard to believe,
this is family?
Biting back words
with a taste of the absurd
putting on another brave face
while an indifferent world
feels absolutely nothing
no love,not a trace...
