Her Sentiments, Not Mine
Won't take the higher road
so over always being told
an answer to every little thing
biting back words which can only sting
A backhand across the face
time will never completely erase
feel the warmth of a welt raise
walking around in a daze
Add another family moment
a yearly birthday celebration
she will ignore this presence
so forget about any present
Unopened cards reside
on the discarded inside
of a lowly garbage can
talking to the walls again
Why is it when
that one day rolls around
She expects the world at her feet,
could she be even less discreet?
The last time she relented
from Mount Olympus descended
all the golden words
just crumbled to dust
After a fine meal
just a cup of coffee will suffice
fore go the lowly cigarette
the cancerous dance of death
Another year older
the atmosphere here seems colder
never seems to find the time
her sentiments, not mine
