See The Lights
Compliments can travel a long way
standing on a carpet
of well trodden insults
generated bad feelings,
that never were anyones fault
He sets himself up
cannot stand to admit defeat
like a ram battering a wall
see the lights, then the infamous fall
anger is a corrosive, seething heat
Wrapped up in the news of today
damned to hell
for being this way
never mind calling the kettle black
it's compassion and understanding
that these simpletons lack
How does one honestly respond
to a world bent
on doing him harm?
with a twist of the arm
the authorities swore to protect?
and a tight noose wrapped around
his pretty white neck?
Who is putting these words
into his sorry mouth?
repeat them, beat them
spit them out,
this is what life is all about
