Ice Age
There are bars
on every available window
so tell me which way
the wind blows?
As the snow evaporates
and the rain pours down
an Ice Age still here
on the wrong side of town
This frost filled heart
will never thaw
Just an endless source of misery
on which to continuously gnaw
A bad taste in the mouth
and an empty stomach growling
Through a crack in the pane
hear the wind angrily howling
Waiting for this spring thaw
to go out and about
A world waking up
if only from a moment of doubt
This Optimism is apparently gone
How could it ever stand
when the world went wrong?
Now sitting here
humming the words to a song
feeling like I've never belonged
Exclusion, delusion,
Intrusion, illusion
four random thoughts
caught like a sudden allusion
Pointing towards something
like a string of words stranded
on the tip of a deserted tongue
No ironic quip,
just a mouthful of spit
The temperature outside on the rise
while I'm in a cycle going down
and no matter how hard I try
this time I might as well drown
In the backyard
all the neighbors stare
I never bother to wave back
in a mood so black,
so why should I even care?
An Ice Age still here
buried beneath a frozen smile
So sick of this emotion that drains me
like a frail, unwanted child
