A Child of God
Am I not a child of God?
haven't lost my way
still following this morality
that clings to me
like some second skin
in the face of adversity
Immersing myself
into a world of factual fiction,
of media blasting sensations
that graze the skin
flowing like water
dancing on air
with a little humble prayer
that is garbled,
but heard everywhere
I am not like you,
though appearances may be deceiving
this strangeness that is cleaving
my soul stands strong
this heart beats on
My intention is honest and pure
winding its way
through the lies and lures
of modern day life
that at times feels so cold
and impersonal,
like a bent nail
left hanging on a wall
in full view of passersby
who will not even once
look tragedy in the eyes
to see the differences marked,
pocked like scars
that silently cry out
with unfulfillable yearning
