I Know There Is Another Poem Within Me
I know there is another poem within me
so cut it loose
and change the scenery
having to shed these skins
before the awkwardness does me in
some burning desire
to throw gasoline on the fire
standing in the middle of an alleyway
by some overgrown hedges
familiar lives on edge
exchanging glances
with a tip of the head
rustling behind the curtains
swallowing back feelings of dread
eyes are drawn
to the colorful graffiti
showing the full intentions
of human anatomy
adding a harsh word here
with a diagram there
but I put all that behind me
never finding the one
who actually cared
I know there is another poem within me
out there somewhere,
on a barren sea
filled with the wrecks of half attempts
ghosts of 'might have beens'
Such simpletons leading simple lives
never questioning anything
even the rain that flattens their heads
reasoning quite hollow
content to always follow
thinking about rosy tomorrows
that never quite seem to arrive
shriveling with discontent inside
finding an unassuming corner
to curl into a ball and cry
However these feelings drain
putting me into moods I can't explain
to fathom the depths
of these particular emotions
just let it go
with pen to paper
or these fingers on a keyboard,
sinking like a stone
