See The Lights
Don’t want to see the lights
or the sights, nor sounds
since closing these eyes tightly
brings back forgotten memories
Swallow this, snort that,
top that, and for what?
for some chemical sensation?
I’m already overreacting, as it is
So leap off that bridge
another step closer to nothingness
a face as sharp as concrete
wondering if this is truly bliss?
Seeking help and falling flat
get right back up and attack
another problem, so what else is new?
tomorrow is a simmering pot of catastrophic news
Never really happy
or ever quite sad
emotionally neutral
another waking day so bland
Don’t want to see the lights
that shine with false hope
it’s not some kind of beacon,
when optimism lies at night
