Loyalty
What ever happened to family loyalty?
Is it the same old white washed story,
cut and dried?
Every time I witness his behavior
and her responses
makes me wonder what one can do
without an ounce of self respect
Ask me what is wrong
this doesn't define me
always on edge
keeping it all in
Made out to be
some unfeeling monster
built up from rumors and lies
so many stories have been told
now I can pick and choose
which elements to use
Never will be close again
forget this humanity
this scheming pile
of farfetched excrement
Maybe the reader feels insulted
but the author feels assaulted
on a daily basis
going through life
ignoring the latest crisis
Some people bring their neuroses
to the table,
feeling quite stable
an arousal of guilt
the glint of recognition
with the tell tale signs
of nervous ticks,
quivering lips
bouncing legs
the seconds pause,
only to be played out
Newspapers shuffled,
dogeared pages frantically turned,
the mantle clock chimes out the hours
the seasons scream by
sun streams flickering fingers
against the pane
while rain drops splatter
sliding down the glass
Adding to the melancholic element
hanging in the air
dust particles celebrating
dirt and decay
unity, solidarity
unspoken,
loyalty
