Clout
How do you do it?
swilling gin martinis like water
from eight to ten
getting up at seven
taking on the day again
but the red eyes
tell a different story
Black coffee, swallowing aspirin
to dull that throbbing pain,
and later tonight
will be more of the same
So tell me,
does the alcohol hide the ugly truth,
life seriously gone to hell?
blaming everyone for a bad judgment call?
Can you recall, the night before at all?
Do you remember,
the good old days?
hunting for scotch in Styrofoam cups
beneath the stairs,
in the spider infested cubbyhole ?
Laughing joke of the neighborhood,
yet the neighbors should talk,
calling me a 'fag'
while their own brother was hidden away
dying of AIDS
You can take your family values,
and shove them where the sun won't shine
can you give me back a childhood,
sincerely tarnished beyond belief?
Shake your heads sadly,
go ahead, judge me
I've been in that compromising position before
but I'm still here,
while you cower behind a curtained window
watching the world slither by
This family is sadly chained,
another member marked as strange
but I don't have any desire to breed
how you renounced it all
yet continue to bleed
Life is pock marked
reasoning has been shown the way out
you put yourselves up on pedestals
giving yourselves way too much credit
but not enough clout...
