The Ribbon
Her eyes reflected my thoughts.
The strongest woman I know,
Seems to be in shambles.
The ribbon the backdrop to her current portrait.
If I could, I would take it all away.
I would take her place, if I could.
“I’ll never see them again,” I’ll steal them for you,
My turn to take up the mantle seems to have
Arrived.
The least I can do will never seem enough
To ease the pain that may be ahead.
In my short time on Earth, I’ve come to realize,
You’ve put up with more than most.
If I can make your true smile come back,
I’d die a happy person.
If I could support you enough for ten people,
I’d regret nothing.
If you have more time, I’ll spend it all with you,
Chasing dreams, smiling at the finer things in life,
And the pains…will stay in the past.
We’ll embrace the future,
However short or long,
Together.
