Battle Lines
I don’t know how long my feet have carried me,
I know the landmark’s I’ve passed.
I squint to see the battle lines of my life
Crisscrossing like veins beneath the surface of my heart.
The war I declared on my soul wages on,
Yet I’ve seen the end results.
I close my eyes and feel the shattered chunks,
Still trying to light my way home.
I cannot recall how long my memories have been bleeding out
Seeping into the earth beneath my scraped knees.
I have prostrated myself to my inner demons.
Today, I shall stand along the battle lines,
Collecting pieces of my soul to face my demons,
Then I can follow the lights home.
