Puzzle
It falls apart,
And I finally get the pieces glued together.
I lost the most important piece,
And I’m held responsible for it.
I got the smile down right,
As far as my memory can tell.
I remember when it could light up a whole room.
Your sweatshirt still warms me
On these cold and dreary days.
It’s been so long since I’ve felt like this,
So complete, yet so hollow at the same time.
I try to ignore the knocking on the window
This time around.
I know you’ve come to say goodbye.
It dawns on me, the piece I’m missing.
You climb through the window.
In your hands I see the glowing piece,
“I think you need this.” you whisper as you ghost
Your hand over my cheek and leave me to
Myself.
His heart fit perfectly,
Finally completing the puzzle.
