    Poem Commentary

    For the Lord, he is good, and he's mercy endureth forever.

    My soul to keep
    As I lay me down to sleep, I know the Lord my soul shall keep
    he'll keep me safe through out the night, and wake me with his blessed light
    he lead me on in mornings song, and walk with me the whole night long
    and when I'm weak he will be strong for he is my savior
    and when this life has reached its end, the Lord shall take me in his hand
    and there I'll be with him on high, in Glorious heaven forever, Amen.

    As I journey through my day the lord shall guide me oh this I pray
    and walk before me all the way until the day light fades
    and when the night time comes again
    my father God, with his mighty hand, will shelter me from
    the evil things for he is my defender

    and when I am so weary and worn, when my body feels
    tattered and torn he'll pick me up in his mighty arms
    and carry me home again and there he rock me fast asleep
    and comfort me when I weep for he is my shepherd

     
    Finally, when this life has reached its end,
    the Lord shall take me in his hand
    and there I'll be with him on high,
    in Glorious heaven forever for he is Almighty God.
