I know he watches me
I saw a bird flying, struggling in the breeze, but just before his wings gave out he landed in the trees
I watched a squirrel one afternoon hunting for his feed,
and just before his strength gave way he found himself a seed
I saw a fish up on the shore withering in pain,
and just before his final breath it began to rain
I saw a car spinning on ice the driver screamed though broken glass,
and just when it seemed the car would turn over it hit a patch of grass
a begger lay freezing on the street,
he had lost all feeling in his hands and feet.
but just as he started to close his eyes,
the golden sun began to rise.
a prisoner was condemned to death he said a prayer under his breath,
but just before they lead him to be, his crime was pardoned they set him free.
I saw a man nailed to a tree he gave his own life for me
and just when the world began to cave the stone rolled and
he rose from the grave
so if God can save the bird with a tree
and if he sets the captive free
then there is a guarantee
for his eyes are on the sparrow
and I know he watches me.
