Remembering
The wise knew
How to imbue
Certain precious occasions
With memories lasting and sweet
And as old as wisdom itself
This scented ritual
Practiced in Churches and prayer closets
And other hallowed places
Insulates its attendees against everything
Except the unique essence
Of Frankincense and Myrrh
Amidst the private audience with God
It triggers
While in the rapture
Of its uncommonly engaging fragrance
And the memories shared
By the infant Christ
Jesus
And those wise enough to take time
For remembering
With Him
