As We Knew It
We are all here for but a tenth of a second
Compared to where we will ultimately
Spend eternity
We are
At the outset
But a seed
Planted on Earth
To establish roots in Love's soil
And grow skyward
To become perfect beings
In God's Holy household
To this end we were created
And this end only
For when the time comes
To harvest the fruits of our lifetime
God will not look for them
Below ground
Or in the flesh and blood trappings
And luxuries this temporal world
Dangles on the treadmills of death and taxes
But in the Son-bathed spirit
Of our love, hope and faith
In Jesus Christ
But if there be no fruit-
If all that is left are dead roots
And the petrified remains
That perished for lack of the water
And nourishment God's Word freely provides
They will be left behind at the harvest
So will it be for those who reject
The forever of heaven
Those who preferred
The flesh and blood blink
Of life as we knew it
Before angels collected our fruit
Into the safety and bliss
Of Father's eternal storehouse
However
Should those left behind come to their senses
Should they finally see the handwriting on the wall
As a result of our leaving
And the reading and remembering
Of the witness we left below
They will come to know God the way we do
And be made pillars in His temple
For having lost their heads
For refusing to deny that Jesus is the Christ
The Son of God
Who takes away the sins of the world
As we knew it
