Act of God
My modem died the other day
A lightning storm had killed it
It just blew out- what can I say
An act of God had willed it
Alas, it’s not repairable
By Dell supporting Indians
This made me feel real terrible
While seeking more opinions
The days went by offline without
A way to work my emails
Nor were there IMs all about
The back-and-forth of details
It wasn’t long before I felt
The pangs of disconnection
Which tightened up my social belt
With sense-of-loss reflection
But then I thought, before too long
This could be a mixed blessing
If God did this, it can’t be wrong
So I just kept on guessing
My dial-up modem moved too slow
Perhaps a high speed upgrade
Would be the better way to go
Instead of 56K
So after checking out each choice
Through PC nerds who know stuff
A network card gave all my toys
The fastest way to show stuff
For years I’d suffered dial-up blues
And snail crawl interaction
Until God’s will caused me to lose
My pure dissatisfaction
For if His lightning hadn’t struck
My up and download blue bar
Would still be moving slow-to-stuck
Instead of way above par
So if your modem makes you cry
When e’er it boots you offline
Perhaps you should look into why
Before your patience redlines
