"Still"
Would it have been unimaginably rapturous
A metaphysical defibrillator to the heart
Revitalizing each omnipresent tributary
With the fiery shock waves of intimacy
Could it have raised the rooftops of our passion
Swelled an endless memory
Only recollections of the ravenous kind
Can bring to mind
Did we dare too hard
Too bravely
This joining to be so beyond
Yet so within us
It could not sigh with longing
Without first and last laughing
At the impossible impracticality of it all
Still
Does not each encounter
Bristle with impatient constrict
Burn with unquenchable foreknowledge
Sputter and swell
As only the incantations of boiling love
Can and will
Should the bottomless sorrow of its holy alliance
Ever bring to bear the first fruit of our perfect affair
With sanity
