unruffled
I am the mighty ocean sweepof foamy wave against the beach
timeless and eternal still
from me you may drink your fill
and not diminish in the least
the bounty of my endless feast
standing there upon the sand
take the brutal stick in hand
carve hateful words deep on the shore
add hash marks to keep track the score
one for never bowing down
two for thinking you're the clown
three for tears I would not weep
four - hoops through which I would not leap
five - not at your beck and call
six - because I would not crawl
seven, eight, nine and ten
your litany is without end
think it through my tragic friend
deep truth to you I will extend
you are just the cold north wind
full of fury, quick to spend
my ruffled waves your passage mark
but on me you can leave no scar
my depths their mysteries will retain
though echo solemn, sad refrain
though you were invited in
you never would learn how to swim
so stand there on the beach and rail
a lonely man doomed to fail
these waves will search for gentler land
and welcome on a fertile strand
where fearless heart will venture in
far beneath my liquid skin
in gloried wonder to behold
an unscathed heart for him to hold
an angry fist thrust at heaven
weak, alone and unforgiven
wandering your empty shore
counting up redundant score
the ugliness inscribed on sand
written in your bitter hand
never touched my tender heart
receive the wisdom I impart
every hateful word you wrote
did not my nature thus denote
but further stained your damaged land
I am the sea, you are the sand
your viciousness could not contain
nor solitary wave restrain
as water seeks new hopeful route
it smooths the sand, the tide is out.
