apathy the enemy
desperate longing leads hungry eyes
to feast on what they may
for all her special private charms
are safely packed away
the remnant of their passions fire
falls like ashes through the silence
blindly unacknowledged
their apathy trumps violence
empty conversations
fill lonely days and nights
never anything to spark
the loving or the fights
so roving eyes will wander
over vistas yet unseen
insatiable his appetite
for untasted cuisine
how merrily she doth persist
in oblivion's pursuit
mindlessly she's entertained
while he reaps forbidden fruit
thoughtless and self-centered
neither one will try
so each remains a captive to
their blind and roving eye
till one day lusting eyes alight
on one who shares their gleam
his feet begin to tread the path
that leads to death of dreams
in guilt and green-hued jealousy
his accusations fall
loud and ineffective
miles short of her walls
and though my words bring anger
for what hasn't happened yet
I tell you now the road you're on
leads only to regret
to feast on what they may
for all her special private charms
are safely packed away
the remnant of their passions fire
falls like ashes through the silence
blindly unacknowledged
their apathy trumps violence
empty conversations
fill lonely days and nights
never anything to spark
the loving or the fights
so roving eyes will wander
over vistas yet unseen
insatiable his appetite
for untasted cuisine
how merrily she doth persist
in oblivion's pursuit
mindlessly she's entertained
while he reaps forbidden fruit
thoughtless and self-centered
neither one will try
so each remains a captive to
their blind and roving eye
till one day lusting eyes alight
on one who shares their gleam
his feet begin to tread the path
that leads to death of dreams
in guilt and green-hued jealousy
his accusations fall
loud and ineffective
miles short of her walls
and though my words bring anger
for what hasn't happened yet
I tell you now the road you're on
leads only to regret
