lighthouse
standing alone in a tower of glass
shining the light out to sea
trying to save from destruction
everyone but me
once safely past the peril
ships will blow their horn
to thank the light for guidance
before they carry on
I don't know where they're going
I don't know where they've been
the only thing I've ever known
is that they can't come in
the life behind that mirror
can only know the dark
and from that solitary post
never can embark
I've never felt the lashing waves
or stood to face the storm
behind these plate glass windows
I've a duty to perform
to witness and to wonder
what it must be like
to bravely fight the raging sea
and finally see the light
I've tried to keep things going
to ensure the light can shine
but it's lonely in this lighthouse
so now I must resign
shining the light out to sea
trying to save from destruction
everyone but me
once safely past the peril
ships will blow their horn
to thank the light for guidance
before they carry on
I don't know where they're going
I don't know where they've been
the only thing I've ever known
is that they can't come in
the life behind that mirror
can only know the dark
and from that solitary post
never can embark
I've never felt the lashing waves
or stood to face the storm
behind these plate glass windows
I've a duty to perform
to witness and to wonder
what it must be like
to bravely fight the raging sea
and finally see the light
I've tried to keep things going
to ensure the light can shine
but it's lonely in this lighthouse
so now I must resign
