only a dream
I dreamed of you last nightin bed with you while the rain pounded the roof overhead
and drizzled down the window panes
in dim early morning light
you cradled me, tight against you
the hard naked length of you
heated against me
your breath in my hair
as you gently stroke me
the dark, my dark rises up
even in this place and time
where contentment should abound
I wish to remove my mask
lay it down on your bedside table
and let all these tumultuous tears fall
but you understand, this needed catharsis
and your strong hands stroke my shoulders
and down my arms
then encircle me, rough and tight
you hold me to you
as I exhale a ragged moan
and finally release all these years
of lonely excoriating imprisoned drops
of liquified heartbreak
turn me towards you and let me weep in your arms
you understand, and I love you for it
your fingers on my chin
you lift my head and as our eyes meet
mine brimming, red-rimmed
your so full of unexpected compassion
your mouth descends
and I belong here, surrendered
purged and finally,
accepted and whole.
I dreamed of you last night.
