American Memorial
looking around our world todaythere's so much I just don't understand
what made this land great
was that every man's fate
lay in his own hands
now you say that I should believe
I've a debt to my fellow man
and though no man's a slave
or an indian brave
restitution is owed to them
the only thing wrong is there's rich and there's poor
and this cannot be permitted
you'd take a man's pay
to give to the state
so they can decide who should spend it
and my children should learn
tolerance and spurn judgment of any kind
but sound judgment I say
is what's needed today
so that is what I will teach mine
we need new laws you say to regulate day
and night and everything in it
and lets add a tax
so that congress can dance
two-step while they rush to spend it
and though our country is great
you walk round in a state
shameful and wringing your hands
if you think that there's someplace better
feel free to go and join them
for I'll not bow my head
to this new vogue of guilt
or the cult of your big government
or surrender my freedom and liberty
on the altar of stalin and lenin
some Memorial Day, not too far away
you'll look back and you'll understand
for these rights we fought
and with spilled blood bought
that is what it means...to be an American
