Pieces
I believe we're made of God stuff
energy, life, free-will
in the image of our creator
wrought with inhuman skill
inside our hearts we carry
a piece of sacred Truth
given us by God to hold
from the first day of our youth
each a unique masterpiece
of complicated hues
bright or dark we thus embark
this mystery to pursue
like jigsaw puzzle pieces
we cannot see the whole
but God can rearrange us
to so connect our souls
each piece a vital aspect
of a picture we can't see
until we're fit together
we won't know harmony
some pieces have straight edges
while others arc and wend
it seems I'm awkward angles
that never seem to bend
but I know someday the master
will take me in his hand
and without haste set me in place
according to his plan
in the meantime I will wander
asking friends along the way
to share the truth God trusted them
to faithfully portray
I'm trying to see the picture
because I understand
though unique we're worthless
if we wander like lost lambs
energy, life, free-will
in the image of our creator
wrought with inhuman skill
inside our hearts we carry
a piece of sacred Truth
given us by God to hold
from the first day of our youth
each a unique masterpiece
of complicated hues
bright or dark we thus embark
this mystery to pursue
like jigsaw puzzle pieces
we cannot see the whole
but God can rearrange us
to so connect our souls
each piece a vital aspect
of a picture we can't see
until we're fit together
we won't know harmony
some pieces have straight edges
while others arc and wend
it seems I'm awkward angles
that never seem to bend
but I know someday the master
will take me in his hand
and without haste set me in place
according to his plan
in the meantime I will wander
asking friends along the way
to share the truth God trusted them
to faithfully portray
I'm trying to see the picture
because I understand
though unique we're worthless
if we wander like lost lambs
