Old Friend
what was so wrong that you crossed that lineI know that you knew better
no matter how it hurt inside
we can't be that unfettered
selfishly you took your life
escaping from your shame
the ultimate sharing
of your eternal blame
the loss of you, the way you left
hard enough a grief to share
but to ensure you didn't go alone
is too much pain to bear
I never knew until today
though several years it's been
that you killed your children too
an unforgivable sin
So when you stand before your God
if He offers to let you in
you'd better thank your lucky stars
that I'm not Him.
