Fireflies

A lone firefly drifting by
Blinking softly in the night
Seeking, always seeking
One to end his plight

All the others have gone
Moved on to better things
But still you remain here
Desperately taking to wings

How sad you must be
To be so alone in your need
So filled with beautiful light
Though sorrow takes it's seed

How lonely you seem
Yet still you have hope
It seems like a miracle
That you still can cope

Your light seems to dim
As you gently give up
Drifting towards the earth
Awaiting the coming sunup

I think of you so much
I begin to find a similarity
We both do the same thing
You're no different than me

We both have such brightness
Only letting it shine sometimes
Seeming to be terribly alone
When others seek better climes

How we both cannot see
That there are other places
So many chances and offers
To light up our faces

How like me you are
Oh, my loneliest firefly
But we'll share our light
