Fear Of The Dark
Fear Of The Dark
In the black of night
Something takes hold
I lose myself to fear
No longer am I bold
There could be anything
Among the shadows
A man, a beast, nothing
Nobody truly knows
I feel the eyes upon me
Something's maybe there
It fills me with chill
And raises my hair
There's something there
I know there has to be
An invisible abomination
That I cannot see
My ears hear it
The steps of something
Quiet, barely there
But the sound does ring
There's breath upon me
Warmth on my neck
I run toward the light
Hastening my trek
The switch flicks on
There was nothing at all
Brightness all around
To the ground I fall
Laughing at myself
This silly little fear
This useless phobia
There was nothing here!
I rise to stand, to leave
Continuing on my way
But I leave the light on
For reasons I need not say
