Chimaera
If I could have your wings, little moth
I'd fly up and about forever
I'd never set foot on land
I would revel in the air
If I could have your voice, dear bird
I would sing so many songs
I'd never stop my serenade
And fill the world with music
If I could have your eyes, wizened owl
I'd peer into the darkness
I'd never fear the night
For I'd always see what's there
If I could have your gills, tiny fish
I'd swim the rivers and seas
I'd never know air again
I'd be content in water
If I could have your arms, mighty bear
I'd move the mountains
I'd never leave paths unmade
No obstacles could exist
If I could have your legs, agile cat
I'd run and leap and play
I'd never slow or stumble
Forever in graceful motion
If I could have your ears, adored dog
I'd listen to the world
I'd never doubt the sounds
So beautiful and sweet
If I could have it all, from each of you
I'd be monstrous, a chimerical terror
I'd never be able to live among men
But I'd be beautiful as ever, to myself
