    Poem Commentary

    I wrote this as an expression of the high I felt after performing in my school's play. Hopefully, I can continue to work on my skill and act a few more times, with roles a bit farther from my actual self. Anyway, enjoy!

    Drama, Drama, Drama

     Up on the stage, behind the mask
    Of my makeup and costume
    I see myself through other eyes
    A hidden talent begins to bloom

    Uttering both line and lyric
    Words sent forth by my tongue
    Though not written by me
    They have been spoken and sung

    I am not myself when I am here
    I become my character's actions
    Lifted up in new confidence
    Following all the right directions

    How incredible it feels on stage
    Released from my inner fright
    To be someone else for a little while
    And able to let loose the light

    If I am given the opportunity
    I will become a brand new man
    Embracing a character's spirit
    As only an actor truly can
