Death A'Callin
Well you see I had myself a friendWho said he'd be there till the end
But he used a chemical
That left him as an empty hull
I came one day to get him out of it
But he would not budge a single bit
He said to me "come try my stuff,
If you disapprove I'll drop it, no bluff."
So I took just one hit
And would you believe it
I got caught up in there too
Boy was I a fool
I found myself in a world not my own
But still it soon became my home
So while I was in there and fallin'
Would you believe that death came a'callin'?
He knocked on my door late one day
Told me that my body would pay
Cause I'm causin' irreparable harm
To myself with the needle in my arm
I just laughed and walked away
And ignored what he had to say
I climbed the stairs up to my doom
And shot up some more in my room
Well the lights went out
And without a doubt
He was standin' by my side
I knew then I up and died
He said to me "just look, my son,
At just what you have done.
You've gone and took your life
Without any rope or knife,"
"But I'll give you just one chance,
To go back to life's beautiful dance.
All you gotta do is look in my eyes,
And tell me you'll wake up and rise"
So I broke down at his feet
And boy have I ever weeped
I looked up to his dreadful face
And made a promise in that place
"I'll never touch that stuff again,
For a chance to be among living men.
I promise, Death, I'll take good care,
You can believe me, on that I swear."
Suddenly I saw the light
Shining on me so bright
I woke up in a hospital bed
But, thank God I ain't dead
Believe me, as soon as I got released
All my addiction habits soon ceased
I struggled a little bit with my curse
But it was easier than ridin' in my own hearse
But sometimes I look out and see
Death walkin' past toward someone like me
To another poor soul that has fallen
He will soon come a'callin...
